Festivities and gastronomy
A GASTRONOMIC YEAR
Is there anything more cultural than cookery? Not only does it encompass our memories, our emotions, our identities, but cookery is also a haven, an art of sharing, an opportunity to throw a party, to be inventive and to be oneself. At Mons 2015, we realised very quickly, however, that the people of Mons do not have a clue about gastronomy. The 5 editions of the “Dimanches Toqués” along with their thousands of three-star-rated lunches had sold out completely even before the ovens were turned on in the Jardins du Beffroi (Gardens of the Belfry)! A 6th edition is now being offered to complete the aptly named Feast, for the first festival of the Mons artists, in September 2015. There will be a 16th-century banquet, with large get-togethers enabling people to put the finishing touches to the “participatory” projects in the communes of Grand Mons, as well as mystery suppers, trendy canteens (see opposite) and a festival of local producers on market days and during the Mons 2015 opening and closing celebrations. Yummy!
