Semaines Lassus - Du Broeucq
Two Mons stars in Renaissance Europe
The musical genius of Orlando di Lasso and the technical prowess of Jacques Du Broeucq, both from Mons, fascinated their patrons and connoisseurs in general. Men of their time, the musician and the sculptor cultivated a new concept of existence. Di Lasso’s contrasting personality typified by his commingling of drinking songs with polyphony, is in keeping with the spirit of an age of change. The profoundly human expressiveness of Du Broeucq sculptures marks a break with the immobility of the Middle Ages and conveys the movements of the soul. Mons 2015 pays homage to these two outstanding artists in an eclectic programme.
